UK and EU agree draft deal to remove Brexit food checks

The UK and EU have agreed a draft deal to remove post-Brexit checks on food and agriculture exports.

The UK and EU have agreed a draft deal to remove post-Brexit checks on food and agriculture exports ahead of a summit on 20 November. The 200-page sanitary and phytosanitary agreement will remove Export Health Certificates, Phytosanitary certificates, inspector fees and other checks affecting trade. British exports of fresh sausages, burgers, shellfish and seed potatoes to the EU will resume. Trade in other food and animal products including cheese, wines, flowers and leather goods will also be eased. The government claims the deal will bring £5.1bn in annual economic benefits. Implementation is not expected until the first quarter of 2028.
